In 2024, Isla Magazine made waves with its powerful edition, “The Rise of the Morena,” a celebration of Filipina beauty, resilience, and cultural pride. This issue sparked conversations on self-love, representation, and the breaking of beauty standards, especially in the European diaspora. Breaking Colorism Stereotypes – The issue highlighted how Filipina women with morena (naturally tan) skin are embracing their heritage despite long-standing societal biases favoring lighter complexions. Through empowering stories, fashion editorials, and personal essays, the magazine showcased how the modern morena is reclaiming her confidence. Spotlight on Filipina Changemakers – Featured were models, entrepreneurs, and artists who are challenging outdated beauty ideals while thriving in their respective fields. Their journeys proved that Filipina beauty is diverse, bold, and limitless.
